Second Harvest is Canada’s largest food rescue organization, dedicated to collecting surplus food from across the supply chain and redistributing it to those in need. Since 2022, Second Harvest has partnered with Green Key Global to ensure that excess food from hotels is redirected to those in need, rather than ending up in landfills.

By collaborating with hotels nationwide, Second Harvest provides essential resources such as research, training, education, and advocacy for policy changes to maximize food redistribution efforts. “There is no planet B,” emphasizes Lori Nikkel, CEO of Second Harvest. “We are in a climate crisis, and we must take this seriously.”

In 2023, Second Harvest supported 4.8 million Canadians through their food rescue initiatives. They successfully redistributed over 74.4 million pounds of food, valued at $268 million, by working with 4,400 charities and non-profits across Canada. This extensive network ensures that surplus food reaches those who need it most.

The partnership with Green Key Global enhances hotel visibility to the resources offered by Second Harvest, including their innovative food rescue app, which allows properties to efficiently manage their surplus food.
