March 19th is Earth Hour – How Hotels Can Support Earth Hour 2016

In 2015, WWF’s Earth Hour grew to become the world’s largest grassroots movement for the environment. While the global lights out initiative remains a fantastic visual call-out, its true impact is starting to be seen in areas and communities fighting climate change on an everyday basis.

Here are some stats:

  • 172 participating countries and territories in 2015;
  • 1400+ of the world’s iconic landmarks were switched off in celebration of Earth Hour;
  • 47 cities are finalists in the Earth Hour City Challenge;
  • Over 378 million tweets were tracked on Twitter about Earth Hour.

What can your facility do this year? Here are a few tips, thanks to the Earth Hour website:

Switch off your façade, signage and non-essential lighting as well as dim the lights in public areas, restaurants and exterior spaces.

Earth Hour is a groundbreaking movement completely powered by you – your ideas, interests and actions. Host an event, for your guests, for your staff, for your community, so that we can all celebrate together.

Go beyond the hour. Support environmental initiatives throughout the year. For the full resource on the Earth Hour website, please click here.

Best of all, share your stories. We reported on stories we found last year from Hilton Hotels, Marriott International, Starwood Hotels & Resorts & Wyndham Worldwide. Will you have an interesting story to share this year? Tell us, and we can help spread the word!
