On April 1, 2024, AHLA and HAC began jointly operating the Green Key Global sustainability certification program in the U.S. and Canada to build upon our shared commitment to contributing to a more sustainable hospitality industry.

The partnership and associated expansion efforts across North America underscores Green Key Global’s dedication to environmental wellbeing. As a testament to this commitment and to mark the occasion, we will be working with our charity partner, One Tree Planted, to plant 5,000 trees across various regions in the US and Canada. This initiative reflects our core values, where sustainability goes hand in hand with growth. One Tree Planted is an environmental nonprofit that is dedicated to global reforestation and our partnership allows Green Key Global to contribute to this important cause, and to local community empowerment. We have committed to planting the trees across the US and Canada through the following projects:

Healthy Forests Restoration Program - Ontario, Canada

The Healthy Forests Restoration Program plants and tracks millions of trees from seed to survival each year in Ontario on more than 500 sites annually and in collaboration with 57 planting partners.

Reforestation in Ontario is crucial for the well-being of communities, biodiversity, and the environment. Planting trees can help restore critical watersheds, rebuild important wildlife habitats, and ultimately combat climate change and global warming. By restoring forests in Ontario, healthy ecosystems will support healthy communities. The health of our natural environment is intrinsically linked to our mental and physical well-being. Planting trees in Ontario can help improve the health of communities, one tree at a time.

Natural Disaster Recovery - Southeast, US

The Natural Disaster Recovery is aimed at reforesting lands affected by natural disasters like hurricanes, wildfires, and floods in the Southeast US.

Forests play a critical role in mitigating climate change, and planting trees in the right place, at the right time, with the right species can change the current trajectory of forests in the United States. By planting trees today, it works towards restoring degraded ecosystems and growing strong, climate-resilient forests that will help address the wildfire crisis, sequester carbon, and enhance biodiversity and ecosystem services.

Green Key Global’s vision has always been to lead the hospitality industry towards a greener future. By planting these trees, we are laying down roots that symbolize our dedication to environmental responsibility and our belief in making a lasting, positive impact.
