Winners of the Green Key Global Environment and Green Key Meetings Awards will be announced at the upcoming Hotel Association of Canada Annual Conference. While there are many reasons to attend, we wanted to celebrate the successes of three green organizations.
The Green Key Energy & Environment Award: This award was created to recognize lodging facilities that have developed a culture around integrating environmental management practices that improve both the bottom line and operations – all while maintaining expectation in service. It was SO hard to choose just one winner this year – so there are two!
Intercontinental Hotels Group is one of the two winners – which during the nomination process, really made the committee take a look at all of the reasons why they deserve to be recognized this year. Did you know that they have a program called Green Engage for their hotels, and has achieved to-date a 13.2% reduction in carbon emissions?
Bellstar Hotels & Resorts is the second of the two winners in this category – and again, they gave the committee reason to take pause and look at all they have done to save energy & become environmentally-friendly. Did you know that they have offset the equivalent of 1,420 car trips across North America?
The Green Key Meetings Award: This award was created to recognize all properties that have incorporated environmental initiatives to its meeting & event spaces – to minimize their negative impact on the environment.
This year, The Westin Ottawa has been selected as the recipient – and boy, do they deserve it! Did you know that their Sustainable Meetings initiatives have paid off – they have composted 128 tons of organic waste (which is equivalent to the weight of 2 Boeing 747 aircrafts)?
We hope that you will join us at the conference to celebrate their successes – if you have not registered; there’s still time! Click here for further details. Or, if you are still undecided, here are 5 Reasons Why You Can’t Miss the 2015 Hotel Association of Canada’s National Conference.
If you cannot make it this year, that’s OK. But don’t forget to submit your nomination for the opportunity to be an award recipient in 2016 – click here for more details.
We hope to see you in Toronto!
